Privacy Policy

County Brief (“we,” “us”) is a hyper-local news dashboard published by Wisdom Digital. This policy explains what information we collect when you use countybrief.com or the County Brief app for iPhone and iPad, and how we use it. The app shows the same site, so everything here applies to both.

Information we collect

• Account and email preferences. If you sign in or subscribe, we store your email address, selected towns and topics, delivery frequency, and related confirmation or unsubscribe tokens.
• Event submissions. If you submit an event, we store the listing details and the contact name and email you provide so we can review the listing and follow up. The contact email is not published on the calendar.
• Session cookies. We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your dashboard preferences, and protect account sessions. These cookies are not used for third-party advertising.
• Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser). Google may set its own cookies. See Google’s privacy policy and opt out of Google Analytics.
• Alerts. If you turn on alerts in your browser or in the County Brief app, we store the push address your browser or Apple provides for that device, with the topics, towns and quiet hours you choose. It is not linked to your email address. Turning alerts off, blocking notifications or deleting the app stops them, and we stop sending to addresses that no longer work.
• Location. To suggest your county and towns we estimate your general area from your IP address; we don’t store it. If you tap “Use my location” on the website, your browser shares an approximate position (rounded to about a kilometer) once to find your county; it is not stored. The app does not ask for your location.
• Page counts. We count page views on our own server (the page, section and town shown) without cookies or any personal identifier.
• Technical logs. Our servers and content-delivery provider may record standard request data such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, to operate and secure the site.

How we use information

We use this information to provide your local dashboard, send the email updates you request (including confirmation and sign-in links), improve the service, and prevent abuse. We do not sell your personal information.

Public sources

News headlines, events, weather, real-estate listings, business alerts, and government materials on County Brief are aggregated from public sources and official publishers. Those items belong to their original publishers. Following an outbound link is subject to that publisher’s privacy policy.

Email

Transactional messages (confirm your account, sign-in links) and optional daily or weekly digests are sent only because you requested them. Every digest includes an unsubscribe link. You can also delete your subscription from that link.

Retention

We keep account and subscription records while your account is active. Unsubscribing removes you from the mailing list. Server logs are retained only as needed for operations and security.

Delete your County Brief account

You can delete your County Brief account, including in the County Brief apps for iPhone and Android, at any time:

1. Email [email protected] from the address you use to sign in, with the subject “Delete my County Brief account.”
2. We confirm the request by replying to that address, then delete the account within 30 days.

Deleted: your email address, your chosen towns and topics, your newsletter subscriptions, your alert settings and any alert (push) registrations. Kept: page-view counts that are not tied to you, and server logs, which are kept only as long as needed for operations and security. To stop emails without deleting your account, use the unsubscribe link in any email.
