Good morning, Sussex County. Mountain Creek's Fall Fest is back for a fourth weekend, a free honey and garlic festival fills the fairgrounds on Saturday, and two touring bands play the Newton Theatre. Here is what is on.

Fall Fest, weekend four

Mountain Creek's Fall Fest runs Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 17 and 18, from 11 AM to 5 PM in Vernon. Live music is from 2 to 5 PM both days: the Geunther Girls on Saturday and the Kick Start Band on Sunday. Guided hikes leave at noon, 2 and 4 PM with a Sky Ride ticket.

Sky Rides are $14.99, the Adventure Package (a Sky Ride plus a Mountain Coaster ride in a reserved time slot) is $29.99, and the bounce house wristband is $9.99, all plus fees. Tickets are sold online only and are non-refundable, so check the weather before you buy. The resort lists one more weekend after this one, Oct. 24 and 25.

Free honey and garlic at the fairgrounds

The 15th annual Harvest, Honey & Garlic Festival is Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM at the Sussex County Fairgrounds, 37 Plains Road in Augusta. Admission is free. The county, the Sussex County Beekeepers Association and the Garden State Garlic Growers host it, with a farmers market, honey and beekeeping displays, garlic vendors and local crafts. Kids get a wagon ride, pumpkin painting and craft activities. The venue is covered, so rain should not cancel it. The Sussex County tourism listing has the details; the county's phone number for questions is 973-579-0500.

Music in Newton

The Newton Theatre, 234 Spring Street, has two shows. The Artimus Pyle Band, billed as a tribute to Ronnie Van Zant's Lynyrd Skynyrd, plays Saturday at 8 PM. Asleep at the Wheel plays Sunday at 7 PM. Both are on our events calendar; tickets are through the theater.

Halloween on the weekends

Wild West City in Stanhope is running its Spooky Days & Haunted Nights Wild West Fest on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:30 AM to 5 PM through Nov. 1, with trick-or-treating and a costume contest for kids. Tickets and details are at wildwestcity.com. The Great Pumpkin Festival at Heaven Hill Farm, 451 Route 94 in Vernon, continues through Nov. 8; the farm lists general hours of 9 AM to 6 PM, so confirm before you drive out.

A first look at town hall

Vernon's Township Committee met Thursday night. Its posted agenda listed the introduction of ordinances regulating outdoor assemblies and amending short-term rental regulations, along with a presentation from GoGov.com. Minutes are not yet posted, so we cannot say what the committee decided. Next week, the Hopatcong Land Use Board meets Tuesday, Oct. 20. Our Monday brief has the rest of the week.
